Just to play devil's advocate, Henri said that he didn't intentionally use his hands. Obviously he stuck his hand out, but I think he meant there was no premeditation. That it happened at game speed, instead of the slo-mo in which we've been watching the replay. I think it's possible that's true.
Accepting that, then the issue becomes the fact that Henri did not immediately tell the referee. Instead he celebrated as if he had done nothing wrong. Now, this is where I think we can crush him. But, I do think it's reasonable to wonder if we would have done anything different. If, after the goal had already been given and our team been put in the driver's seat for WC qualification, would we have had the guts to go the the ref and tell him to overturn the goal? I'd like to think so, but maybe not. We've all done shitty stuff on the soccer field, especially Josh.
My gut deals me that Henri is genuinely remorseful, although it's easy to say Ireland should get a replay once FIFA has said it's not going to happen. But there's no denying Ireland was totally screwed and I'll be rooting for the French to go out early.
What if he quits the French team before the World Cup?
